Travertines are compact fine-crystal limestones, whose mass is characterized by cellulous structure with large pores. Travertines, usually, are light-coloured (beige up to yellow colour), but sometimes are darker (brownish and reddish), due to the presence of iron hydroxide. As a building material, it is usually used in exterior sites and wall coverings, due to its high porosity.
