Sandstone is a compact sedimentary rock which came from the diagenesis of sand layers, whose grains have been cemented with a natural mineral glue. The grain size of the sand in sandstones vary from 1/16 up to 2 mm, while the natural adhesive material could be calcitic (in most cases), carbonic calcium or clay. Like sand, sandstone may be any color, but the most common colors are brown, yellow, red, gray and white. Due to its hardness, its resistance to weathering and its reduced ability in polishing, sandstone is a material appropriate for exterior applications, in wall coverings, pavements etc.
